Westminster College Announces Women's Choir Concert

The Westminster College Women's Choir will present its spring concert Friday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel.

In the sacred music section of the program, soprano Jennifer Swearingen will sing a solo in "Amarilli, mia bella." The American folk music era is represented by such numbers as "He's Gone Away" and "The Soldier."

After intermission the concert will continue with music from the stage and screen. Songs from West Side Story will be presented by a quartet, Elizabeth Grepp, Erin Gardner, Tiffanie Scilla, Jessica Beblo, and featuring soloists Tiffanie Scilla and Stanley Rothrock III. "Marry the Man Today" from Guys and Dolls will feature soprano Diana Rodenhausen and alto Eryn Lees.

The concert concludes with percussion music by Beblo and Rothrock accompanying the choir in such numbers as "Mbiri Kuna Mwari" and "Akakomborewa." Kelly Johnston, Alyssa Leavy, Eryn Lees, Sara Palmosina, Diana Rodenhausen, and Pamela Wasilweski are ceili dancers in "Mouth Music." "Go Down Moses" features duets by Wasilweski and Lees, Johnston and Palmosina, Leavy and Scilla, and a solo by Swearingen.

The 21-piece ensemble is directed by Sharon R. Rotuna, adjunct voice professor at Westminster College. She earned her undergraduate and master's degrees from Duquesne University.
