History students at Westminster College learn to read critically, analyze systematically, communicate effectively, write convincingly, work collaboratively, and think globally about the past. A major in history is excellent preparation for a variety of careers and a life well lived. The faculty emphasizes the intellectual value that arises from studying the past, as knowledge of history is important to understanding the current world and navigating the future. Students are trained in research methods, the critical evaluation of evidence and conflicting points of view, and the organization and presentation of reading and research results. Students have a variety of opportunities for internships and independent studies.
