NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Erin Ward, a rising junior environmental science major at Westminster College, received the Helen R. Ferguson Scholarship for excellence in environmental science at the annual Bartramian Audubon Society Awards Ceremony on Monday, May 13, at the Jennings Environmental Education Center in Slippery Rock, Pa.

The scholarship is awarded to an environmental science major who has demonstrated excellence in the areas of environmental science and education. Dr. Helen Boylan, professor of environmental science and director of the Center for the Environment, introduced Ward as part of the awards ceremony.

“Erin has been active in environmental outreach and research over the last two years through Westminster’s ALLARM water quality outreach program. Additionally, Erin excels in the classroom,” Boylan cited as reasons the Environmental Science Committee selected Ward for the scholarship.

Ward is putting her environmental education to good use this summer through an internship with the Lake County Farmparks, which is part of the Lake MetroParks near Cleveland.

Ward is a daughter of Sean and Kristi Ward of Euclid, Ohio, and a graduate of Lake Catholic High School.

Contact Boylan at 724-946-6293 or email for additional information.
