The Westminster College School of Music is proud to announce its Affiliation Agreement with Duquesne University for Music Therapy after a culmination of efforts by the Westminster music faculty and Dr. Daniel Perttu, Chair of the School of Music.

As a part of the Affiliation Agreement, students obtain a bachelor’s degree in music at Westminster and then receive priority consideration for the Post-Baccalaureate Certification in Music Therapy (PBCMT) program at Duquesne. After successfully completing the required courses, students may apply and audition for a spot in the PBCMT program.

"We are truly very excited to be able to offer students this option,” says Perttu. “With this agreement, Westminster students can get a well-rounded musical education as an undergraduate, take courses needed to prepare for the PBCMT program at Duquesne and be considered for priority admission." The PBCMT program is highly competitive and requires a year of coursework followed by a 6-month internship.

Perttu adds, “The music faculty often hear that prospective students are interested in music therapy. This Affiliation Agreement gives students a formalized path through which students can learn about music therapy and then focus themselves as they go further in their college career."

Other changes to the Westminster College School of Music include the new track in Music Composition for students of Bachelor of Arts in Music.  As a part of this track, students take more in-depth composition lessons, upper-level music theory courses and incorporate their original composition into their Capstone thesis project.
