Westminster College’s Combined Choirs will present Robert Ray’s Gospel Mass Sunday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel. The worship service is open to all.

Written more than 35 years ago as an experimental work for a one-time performance, the 30-minute Gospel Mass sets the words and music from the Catholic Mass to the rhythm and harmony of African-American music. The composer believes this piece strikes an ecumenical chord that “allows people of all denominations or faith to embrace the style.”

The special Open Door Worship will feature student soloists and Westminster faculty artists Jeff Wachter, P. J. Gatch III and Mark Antonich.

The choirs are under the direction of Dr. Sam Barbara, Westminster assistant professor of music and director of choral activities.
