Westminster Students Attend Kappa Delta Pi International Conference

Posted on Monday, November 24, 2003

Eleven Westminster College students attended the Kappa Delta Pi International Convocation Conference in St. Louis.

"We heard keynote speakers that included Alvin Law, Alfie Kohn, and National Teacher of the Year Betsie Rogers," said Heather Klink, a senior mathematics major from Jamestown. "Over a hundred other presenters offered hour-long sessions ranging from classroom management to motivation, and grief counseling to fun class activities. We also had a chance to network with other local chapters of KDP, and share ideas about fundraising, recruiting, chapter activities, and service projects."

Tiffany Gardner, a senior German major from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and Julie McKnight, a senior French major from Glenshaw, presented an hour-long talk on their case study, "German and Context Learning." They have been teaching twice a week at Liberty Elementary, focusing on context learning.

Kappa Delta Pi is an international education honor society, which is restricted to the top 20 percent of those students seeking teacher certification. Westminster's chapter has about 60 members. The group offers several colloquiums throughout the year, sponsors a book drive, and Reading is Fun Week.
