Westminster College students took fourth in the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) state competition in Philadelphia.
This year the PICPA required that participating schools create a fictitious trucking company. The Westminster team chose "Titan Trucking" and created goals, management and organization of the company. They developed marketing and sales strategies, and created financial statements for the future needs of the organization.
Phase two of the competition tested the team's ability to work under pressure. The teams were given a situation to solve only a few hours before their presentation, and then had to adjust their business plan and finances to provide a solution to the problem.
Westmnster's team included: Daniela DiRupo, a junior business administration major and a daughter of Aldo and Mary DiRupo, Hermitage; Casie Howes, a senior business administration major and a daughter of Maria Howes, Cranberry Township; Meredith Kerner, a junior accounting and business administration major and a daughter of Joseph and Karen Kerner, Greensburg; Amanda Moore, a senior business administration major and a daughter of Sandra Moore, Pittsburgh; and Sara Noel, a junior accounting major and a daughter of Charles and Anita Noel, Connellsville.
Cash prizes were awarded the day of the competition to all winners with amounts ranging from $1,500 for first place to $200 for fifth place.
