Westminster College recognizes Dr. Richard Sprow, professor of English, as recipient of the 2016 Distinguished Faculty Award.

“He doesn’t just add color within lines that already exist – he has helped to draw many of the lines that contain the colors of Westminster,” said Dr. Jane Wood, Dean and Vice President for Academic Affairs, in her award deliverance speech.

“Faculty colleagues have benefited from Dr. Sprow’s wisdom in teaching and serving. Thousands of students have passed through this faculty member's classroom, and they quickly realized they were in for something special.”

Sprow, who has served at Westminster for 40 years, received a bachelor’s degree at St. Lawrence University, and a master’s and Ph.D. from Purdue University.

The distinguished faculty award is presented to a tenured faculty member who has, over a sustained period of time, demonstrated characteristics of the most outstanding faculty: intellectual vitality, effective communication skills, the ability to motivate or inspire compassion and concern for student success, collegiality, and leadership.
