Westminster College Foster Art Gallery to Host Reception Jan. 23

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Westminster College's Department of Communication Studies, Theatre and Art will host an art gallery opening and reception for Wisconsin-based artist Edwin Jager from 4:30-6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23 at the Foster Art Gallery in Patterson Hall. A reception will include a gallery talk by the artist at 5:15 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Jager's exhibition will run from Jan. 13-Feb. 14 and will feature altered book sculptures. Using sculpture, print, video, photography, text, and drawing, he explores the book as a physical and cultural artifact.
Jager is currently an associate professor of art at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh where he teaches courses in graphic design. He earned an MFA from the University of Iowa and a graduate certificate from the University of Iowa Center for the Book, a program that combines training in the technique and artistry of bookmaking with research into the history and culture of books.
He has presented other recent exhibitions in Michigan, Florida, and Colorado. His work can be found in numerous institutional collections in the United States and Canada.
The Foster Art Gallery is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and hosts six exhibits annually, one of which is the student/senior exhibit in March. Regional, national, and international artists are also brought to campus for exhibits and lectures.
