Westminster College Offers Volunteer Workshop; Patrons Can Learn About Event Planning, Fund Raising, and Admissions

Westminster College is offering volunteer workshops for anyone who wants to learn more about event planning, fundraising, and admissions Saturday, April 16, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the McKelvey Campus Center.

The event planning sessions feature, Sharon Ellwood McCullough 79, owner of Expert Events, on "Special Event Planning;" Cindy Schuyler Dafler 03, Westminster College coordinator of institutional advancement events, on "Westminster Regional Events;" and Mary Cooley James 84, Westminster College director of alumni relations, on "Westminster Reunions."

The fund-raising experts include: Kevin Garvey 77, vice president for development Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra on "How to Work with Volunteers;" Bruce Bartoo 86, Pro-Medica Health Systems executive director, foundations, on "Why People Give;" Julie Shellito Waegraff 92, Crossroads director of development, on "Special Event Fund Raising;" and Gloria C. Cagigas, Westminster College vice president for institutional advancement, on "Philanthropy in America."

Admissions speakers include: Sylvester A. Miel 58, independent broker, The Principal Financial Group; and Bradley P. Tokar 91, Westminster College senior associate director of admissions.

Throughout the morning, participants will also hear from Ronald E. Hustwit '64, College of Wooster philosophy professor; Jeffrey E. Tobin '78, Henry Hall Inc. owner; and Westminster College President R. Thomas Williamson.

 Student Alumni Association members, Student Government officials, and the Student Westminster Admissions Team will join participants for lunch.  Following the workshops, participants will have the opportunity to take special tours of the athletic facilities, radio and television areas, natural sciences, or an overview of the campus.

 The workshops are open to the public for a $10 fee that includes lunch.  Anyone interested in event planning or fund raising can attend.  Deadline for reservations is Wednesday, April 6.  For more information, contact James at (724) 946-7363 or e-mail mjames@westminster.edu.
