Celebrity Series to Welcome John Tesh for Holiday Concert

Posted on Thursday, December 1, 2011

The Westminster College Celebrity Series will host entertainer/musician/composer John Tesh for Big Band Christmas Friday, Dec. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.

The six-time Emmy winner and Grammy Award nominee will share the stage with 12 band members, including eight horns, to capture the holiday spirit with swing arrangements of classic songs.  Tesh, who has sold over seven million albums, hopes to introduce young fans to a new sound while offering a bit of nostalgia for the more mature members of the audience.

"Starting with this Christmas tour and continuing with some new recordings next year, people are going to see something different than I've ever done and get to experience music in a more ‘vintage' form," said Tesh. "With the big band-style arrangements, we'll be performing my songs and many of the classics the way Sinatra and the Rat Pack did back in the day.  For the kids who've never heard this style of music in concert before, they are going to get a taste of big band swing.  And for their parents, there will be a lot of nostalgia."

In addition to the musicians, the concert includes vocalists, dancers, and a state-of-the-art light show.

Giant Eagle is the show sponsor.

Tickets, ranging from $35-$55, are available by calling the Celebrity Series box office at (724) 946-7354.  Visit the Celebrity Series website for additional information on this and all of the season's shows.
