"Do you Know," a community program designed to inform about drug trends and dangers, is coming to Westminster College Tuesday, April 5, from 6-9 p.m in Orr Auditorium.

"The program features Agent Elaine Surma, senior supervisory narcotics agent from Erie, and Gary Cappello, agent of the consumer division," said Judy Duda, health center director at Westminster College.  "Teachers, students with career goals working with school-aged children, parents, grandparents, and community residents are all invited to this free seminar.  Training will focus on alcohol, binge drinking, inhalants, club drugs, crack, methamphetamine, heroin and other street drugs."

The event is designed to answer questions like: What drugs are your kids exposed to?  What drugs are in your community?  How to get help for someone with a drug or alcohol problem? What to do if you suspect drug use or drug trafficking?  How to protect your kids from online predators?

Surma began her law enforcement career 27 years ago as a special agent for the Bureau of Criminal Investigation in the Pennsylvania Department of Justice.  In 1998, she served as the regional director for the Bureau of Narcotic Investigation and Drug Control in Erie.  She is a frequent participant in Lawrence County's Adopt-a-School program, and spoke at successful "Sex, Drugs, Rents, and Raves" program, presented to Lawrence County's schools and community.

The event is sponsored by Westminster College, Pennsylvania Department of Health, Lawrence County Drug and Alcohol Commission, and the Lawrence County District Attorney Matthew Mangino.
