Language Majors Presented Capstones

Seven Westminster College language majors recently presented their capstone projects.

Bryce Beeghley, a junior Spanish major, is a son of Randall and Darci Beeghley of Dunbar and a graduate of Connellsville Area High School.  He presented "Literary Expression and Censorship during the Era of Francisco Franco" April 28.

Lisa Giardina, a senior Spanish major, is a daughter of Joseph and Cindy Giardina of New Castle and a graduate of Neshannock High School.  She presented "The Moorish Impact on the Culture in Andalusia, Spain" May 5.

Mary Jo Kachurik, a senior French major, is a daughter of Mary Kachurik and Joseph Kachurik, both of Cortland, Ohio, and a graduate of Lakeview High School.  She presented "May 1968 and French Culture" May 3.

Brooke Lyon, a senior Spanish major, is a daughter of James and Barbara Lyon of Butler and a graduate of Butler Area High School.  She presented "Bullfighting: Will It Survive Criticism?" April 28.

Caitlyn Paternoster-Bove, a junior Spanish major, is a daughter of Christine Bove of Blossburg and a graduate of North Penn High School.  She presented "Machismo and Stereotypical Gender Roles as Causes of Domestic Violence in Costa Rica" May 5.

Marlee Tonks, a junior Spanish major, is a daughter of Floyd and Cindy Tonks and a graduate of Greenville High School.  She presented "Alejandro Casona: Asturian Master of Myths, Legends, and Drama" May 5.

Nicole Zappa, a senior intercultural studies major, is a daughter of Dominic and Caroline Zappa of Monroeville and a graduate of Gateway High School.  She presented "The Muslim Head Scarf Debate in France: An Irreconcilable Conflict? The French and the Muslims' Contradicting Ways of Upholding the French National Motto" May 3.

The capstone project, the final component of the Liberal Studies curriculum at Westminster, is a course within the major designed to provide an opportunity for students to evaluate and assess the strengths and limitations of their major field.
