College to Host Guest Composer and Present Student Composers Concert April 2

Westminster College's Department of Music will host guest composer Dr. David Cutler for a master class and workshop on composition and entrepreneurship Saturday, April 2, at noon in Patterson Hall 53.  Following the workshop, a student composers concert will be held at 3 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel.  The concert is free and open to the public.

Cutler, who has been described as "a multi-dimensional composer," is associate professor of composition and musicianship and coordinator of music entrepreneurship studies at Duquesne University.

Jaynie Cooper will present her composition "Offering" as she accompanies herself at the piano.

Stephen Flory composed "Ineffable" and will play vibraphone in the selection.  He will be assisted by Timothy Matyas and Joshua Sarchet on marimbas.

Leaha Parady composed "Laconic," which will be performed by pianist Dr. Nancy Zipay DeSalvo, Westminster associate professor of music.

Anthony Pezzelle composed "Ambience," which will be performed by: Sara Eliser on oboe; Cody Floyd on glockenspiel; DeSalvo on piano; Jessica Kimbell and David Rankin on violins; Caroline Reina on viola; Dr. Jason Howard, Westminster visiting assistant professor of music, on cello; and vocalists Keely Bedner, Elise Heater, Jessica Mriso, Parady, Alexandra Patterson, and Anne Rematt.

Timothy Skero will present his composition "Jazz on the Porch" on guitar.

Additional selections on the program will include compositions by Cutler, Howard, and Dr. Daniel Perttu, Westminster assistant professor of music theory and composition.
