Choruses to Present Spring Concert April 10

The Westminster College Women's Chorus and Men's Chorus will present their spring concert Sunday, April 10, at 3 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel.  The concert is free and open to the public.

The Women's Chorus program includes "Jazz Exsultate" by John Purifoy; Susan LaBarr's arrangement of Stephen Foster's "Under the Willow;" Alice Parker's arrangement of "Hark, I Hear the Harps Eternal;" "The Seal Lullaby" by Eric Whitacre; "Shady Grove" (with "The Cuckoo") arranged by Nancy Boone Allsbrook and Glenda Goodin; and Stephen Hatfield's arrangement of "Koka," a traditional Punjabi melody.  Daniel Goffus is the accompanist.

The Men's Chorus portion of the program includes Peter Sozio's arrangement of "El Yivneh Hagalil," a Hebrew folk song; "Nothin' Gonna Stumble My Feet" by Greg Gilpin; Mark Wilberg's arrangement of "The King of Love My Shepherd Is," featuring flutists Jessica Geiger and Evan Wildhack; John Farmer's "Fair Phyllis I Saw," edited and adapted by William C. Powell; Mitchell Sandler's arrangement of "Byker Hill," an Irish folk song; Gaetano Donizetti's "Song of the Regiment" from The Daughter of the Regiment, featuring soprano soloist Hannah Timm; and a barbershop rendition of "Swing Down Chariot" with soloists Trevor Young and Jordan Zabo.  The Men's Chorus is accompanied by Leaha Parady.

The combined choruses will conclude the concert with "Benedictus sit Deus" and "Jubilate Deo" from Mozart's Offertorium, K117 accompanied by pianist Michele Garman, Westminster music librarian.

The women's groups are under the direction of Mr. Kris Harper, Westminster adjunct music faculty and 1981 Westminster graduate who earned a master's from Youngstown State University.

The Men's Chorus is under the direction of Dr. Robin Lind, associate professor of music and director of choral activities.  Lind, who has been with Westminster since 2000, earned an undergraduate degree from the College of Idaho, master's from the University of Oregon, and Ph.D. from the University of Utah.
