English Professor to Speak at Faculty Forum

Posted on Wednesday, October 20, 2010

Dr. Kristianne Kalata Vaccaro, Westminster College assistant professor of English, will speak at Faires Faculty Forum Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Vaccaro's presentation, "Whatever Happened to the Good, Old-Fashioned Letter? Audience Awareness in Autobiographical Narrative Forms, Past and Present," will focus on one of her current research projects that explores the role of audience awareness in the letters of British Victorian actress Fanny Kemble.

To illustrate how her research on autobiography has influenced her teaching, Vaccaro will discuss a service-learning project and other assignments that facilitated students' explorations of modern technologies as audience-aware autobiographical forms.

Vaccaro, a 2000 Westminster alumna who joined the faculty in 2005, earned a master's and Ph.D. from Duquesne University.

Faculty Forum was established in 1990 by Dr. Barbara Faires, Westminster professor of mathematics emerita, during her term as Dean of the College and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Faculty members from all disciplines volunteer to present lectures on their current research, artistic productions, and/or scholarship of teaching and learning. Each forum presents new ideas with innovative lecture techniques.
