Dr. Sandra Webster, Westminster College professor of psychology, presented at two sessions of the 35th annual international conference on Improving University Teaching July 1-3 in Washington, D.C.
Webster's digital showcase presentation, "WikiKlips: Using Vodcasts on Wikis for Student Team Lab Reports," was co-authored with Gary Swanson, Westminster director of Audio Visual Services, and senior psychology major Rachael Hoffman. The video showed how Webster's students used Flip cameras to make videos and connect them to their wiki reports (collaborative writing) in the Sakai Learning Management System.
"The main point was that using all this technology helped the students learn other technology better and did not take away from their main content learning and supported teamwork," Webster said.
Webster convened a panel, "Two Birds, One Stone: Learning with Our Students through Collaborative Scholarship," that focused on undergraduate research as a high-engagement, best-teaching practice. Additional panelists included the faculty development officers from Mary Mount University and Columbia College and the CEO for the Council on Undergraduate Research.
Webster, who has been with Westminster since 1983, earned undergraduate and master's degrees and Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
