Posted on Tuesday, March 3, 2009

The Seraphim Chorus, a community chorus, will present concerts featuring Westminster College students and faculty at three area locations.

The group will perform Friday, March 13, 7 p.m., at Mary, Mother of Hope Parish in New Castle; Sunday, March 15, 3 p.m., at St. James Episcopal Church in Boardman, Ohio; and Sunday, April 26, 4 p.m., at Christ Episcopal Church in Warren, Ohio. All concerts are open to the public; freewill offerings will be taken.

The chorus, under the direction of Mr. Kris Harper, Westminster College adjunct music instructor and 1981 Westminster graduate, is accompanied by Kathryn D. Miller, Westminster College organist.

The chorus will also be accompanied by a brass quartet and timpani, featuring 2008 Westminster graduate Jacob Moon on euphonium and current Westminster music education majors:

Natalie Bok, a freshman, is a daughter of Sandra Bok of Sharpsville and a graduate of Sharpsville High School. She plays the trombone.

Jonathan Nickel, a senior, is a son of Clinton and Debbie Nickel of McKees Rocks and a graduate of Montour High School. He plays the trumpet.

Joseph Ohodnicki, a senior, is a son of Paul and Marie Ohodnicki of East Pittsburgh and a graduate of Woodland Hills High School. He plays the trombone.

The concert, "When in Our Music God is Glorified," will feature choral selections from a collection of treasured hymns, including: "New Britain" ("Amazing Grace"); "Thaxted" ("O, God Beyond All Praising"); "Aurelia" ("The Church's One Foundation"); and "O Store Gud" ("How Great Thou Art").
