Westminster College to Present 22nd Annual Christy Lecture

Posted on Friday, February 27, 2009

The Rev. Dr. William N. Jackson, a 1957 Westminster College graduate and member of Westminster's Board of Trustees, will present "A Servant Strategy (Witnessing in an Increasingly Secular, Multi-Sensory Society)" at the Wayne H. Christy Memorial Lecture at Westminster's Vespers service Sunday, March 8, at 7 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel.

While at Westminster, Jackson was a member of the concert and vespers choirs, college quartet, and track and field team. He was active in student government, Inter-Fraternity Council (IFC), and Sigma Nu fraternity, with leadership roles as president of his class, concert choir, and IFC, and Sigma Nu Commander.

Following graduation, Jackson earned bachelor and master of divinity degrees from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and a master of theology degree from Princeton Theological Seminary. He was awarded honorary doctorates from his alma mater and from Houghton College.

Jackson's ministry includes an associate pastorate in Abington; senior pastorates in Michigan and Ohio; Dean of the Chapel at Westminster; director of the Department of Religion at the Chautauqua Institute; and, since retirement, interim pastorates in Pittsburgh and Lancaster.

The service is free and open to the public. Music will be provided by the Westminster College Concert Choir under the direction of Dr. Robin Lind, Westminster associate professor of music and director of choral activities.

The Wayne H. Christy Memorial Lecture series honors the late Dr. Christy, who was a long-time faculty member and chair of the Department of Religion and Philosophy at Westminster College. As Dr. Christy dedicated his life to relating the heritage of faith to the emerging issues of a changing culture, the lecture series seeks out men and women who distinguish themselves by relating Christian faith to issues of contemporary life.
