Westminster College's Office of Diversity Services will host activities in observance of Black History Month.

A highlight of the month will be "Five Ladies Singing Gospel" Friday, Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in Wallace Memorial Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.

The musical pays tribute to some of the greatest female gospel singers from the contemporary to the traditional, including the songs of Mahalia Jackson, Tramaine Hawkins, and Clara Ward.

Also scheduled to appear is Curtis Farrow, the award-winning playwright whose productions "Gospitality" and "Your Arms Too Short to Box with God" have been performed at Westminster.

Other activities for the month include: Caribbean, African, Creole, and soul America cuisine by Sodexo Dining Services; "Motown Friday" Feb. 20 on Westminster's radio station, WWNW 88.9; Black History-themed movies on weekends in the Sebastian Mueller Theater of the McKelvey Campus Center; and the Rev. Jeannette Hubbard, director of Westminster's Office of Diversity Services, speaking at the chapel service Friday, Feb. 27, at 11:40 a.m.

Featured Thursday, Feb. 19, will be a Black History Month art display and Karamu: A Community Feast for the Westminster community.
