The Westminster College Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band will present their annual "Celebrate the Seniors" concert Friday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium. Doors open at 7 p.m. for this free public event.
Under the direction of Dr. R. Tad Greig, Westminster College assistant professor of music and director of bands, the program will include "Sketches on a Tudor Psalm" by Fisher Tull; "Prelude and Dance," the first movement of La Fiesta Mexicana by H. Owen Reed; and the premiere of senior Jacob Moon's "Fall of the House of Usher," the culmination of his College Honors project.
The Symphonic Band will perform Giovannini's "Overture in B Flat," and Houseknect's transcription of the Russian melody "Salvation is Created."
Guest conductor Gary Taylor, director of bands at Wilmington High School, will conduct "Concert Variations" by Claude T. Smith.
Graduating seniors will be honored during their last performance with the bands at Westminster.
"This is a very special evening, as we have an opportunity to honor a wonderful group of student musicians," Greig said.
The concert will also introduce new music majors and minors.
"I was very happy to see so many students who are able to join us for our combined performance of the Westminster Alma Mater," Greig said. "This concert allows us to honor those who have given so much to Westminster, and to welcome those who will be joining us soon."
