Westminster College to Participate in "Mucho Macho Music"

Posted on Wednesday, October 24, 2007

Westminster College's Men's Chorus will participate in the fourth annual "Mucho Macho Music" festival at North Hills Junior High School Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

The festival is for young men with changing voices in grades 6-9. Sponsored by the Southwest Region of the American Choral Directors Association of Pennsylvania (ACDA-PA), this year's event involves 124 students from 18 schools in western Pennsylvania for a one-day workshop.
Westminster's Men's Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Robin Lind, associate professor of music and director of choral activities, provides a vocal model of what is to come once the voice change occurs. The chorus will perform for the boys, mentor them throughout the day, and join them in the 3 p.m. closing performance.

Directors who attend the workshop will have an opportunity to take part in a vocal production/master class with Dr. Anne Bentz, Westminster associate professor of music.

Shaun Cloonan, a 2000 Westminster graduate and director of the eighth-grade chorus at North Hills, is the organizer and site host for the event.

This year's guest conductor is Dr. Lon Beery, who has composed or arranged over 50 published choral pieces for which he has received several ASCAP Standard Awards. He has written articles for the Choral Journal and the Music Educators Journal and has presented sessions at numerous conferences of ACDA and MENC. He currently serves as the Middle School Repertoire and Standards Chair for New York ACDA.
