Professor to Address Respect in the Classroom

Posted on Thursday, October 11, 2007

Dr. Sandra Webster, Westminster College professor of psychology, will discuss "Creating and Maintaining a Classroom Culture of Respect" at Faculty Forum Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 11:40 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater in the McKelvey Campus Center.

The event is free and open to the public.

"I'll be describing the results of the student and faculty respect survey that was recently completed," said Webster, who is also Westminster's faculty development officer. "These are the same surveys that were conducted in spring 2005. I want to see if the student and faculty perceptions have remained stable over that time period. The purpose of the study is to understand how students and faculty members at Westminster perceive respect in the classroom. The results will help us design faculty development programs that foster a culture of respect."

Webster has been with Westminster since 1983. She earned undergraduate and master's degrees and a Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.

Faculty Forum, established in 1990, serves as a venue for the exchange of ideas and information among Westminster College faculty. Speakers present their research, teaching ideas, lectures, performances, special programs, and uses of technology to keep faculty informed about the work of colleagues from many disciplines.
