The Westminster College Symphonic Band will present a mid-winter concert Friday, Feb. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Orr Auditorium.

The program for the 77-piece band includes a wide variety of music from prominent composers such as Fisher Tull, Robert Jager, Clare Grundman, Jan Van der Roost and Vincent Persichett.

Under the direction of R. Tad Greig, the band will open with "Flashings Winds" a number that challenges the ensemble through a variety of rhythmic meters, and continues with "March: Wind," a march treated in a non-stereotype manner.

"We will perform Perichettis "Pageant," which was composed for the American Band Masters Association in 1953, and has become one of the benchmark band works," said Greig.  "Tulls's Introit' demonstrates skillful use of the brass and woodwind choirs of the band, as well as the percussion which is a common trait of this composer."

Greig, director of bands at Westminster College since 1995, earned his undergraduate degree from Grove City College, and his master's from Youngstown State University.
