The program begins with Robert Schumann's "Piano Quintet in E-flat, Op. 44," a high energy and creative piece. The quintet includes: Nancy DeSalvo, assistant professor of music at Westminster, on the piano; James Dunlap, a member of the Warren Philharmonic Orchestra, on the viola; Jacqueline Pitman, a member of the Youngstown Symphony and Warren Philharmonic Orchestras, on the cello; Betty Stephenson, former member of the Cincinnati and Houston Symphony Orchestras, on the violin; and James Stephenson, a former member of the United States Military Band at West Point and the Cincinnati and Houston Symphony Orchestras, on the violin.
After intermission, the concert continues with Johannes Brahms' "Horn Trio in E-flat, Op. 40," which is based on a German folk song, and viewed as a therapeutic piece written while Brahams was in deep depression over the death of his mother. The horn trio includes: DeSalvo on the piano; Jeffrey Johns, a member of the Youngstown Symphony and Warren Philharmonic Orchestras, on the violin; and Grover Pitman, professor and chair of music at Westminster college and a member of the Youngstown Symphony and Warren Philharmonic Orchestras, on the horn.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Dr. Grover Pitman, at (724) 946-7274 or e-mail pitmanga@westminster.edu.
