Westminster College Honors Classroom Heroes

They are: Todd S. Cole, first grade teacher at Laurel Elementary in New Castle; John Kraysets, teacher at Campbell Middle School in Campbell, Ohio; Janet Lawrence, second grade teacher at Roosevelt Elementary School in Hubbard, Ohio; Judy Parsons, sixth grade teacher at Canfield Village Middle School in Canfield, Ohio; Martin Persch, fourth grade teacher at Oakview Elementary School in Stoneboro; Frank Rahde, social studies teacher at Lordstown High School in Lordstown, Ohio; and Robert D. Schmid, mathematics teacher in the Mercer Area School District in Mercer.
Westminster College and News Cannel 33, the Youngstown, Ohio-based ABC affiliate, are teaming up to honor 14 outstanding area educators. "Classroom Heroes" are honored with a certificate and sweatshirt from Westminster College, and are profiled on News Channel 33. In addition, a book is donated in the winner's name to the school library courtesy of News Channel 33 and Westminster College.
"Westminster College is pleased to recognize the contributions of area educators," according to Westminster College President R. Thomas Williamson. "These unsung heroes deserve our praise, and we look forward to helping the next generation of classroom heroes through our John Deaver and Elizabeth Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning."
The Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning will open next fall in Westminster's new $14-million Campus Center, and will advance world-class teaching at Westminster and enrich K-12 education through outreach programs for area educators.
Nominations of area teachers of students in kindergarten through 12th grade will be accepted until April 10. Nominations should include the name of the teacher and a brief description of why this person is a "classroom hero," and e-mailed to classroomhero@wytv.com or mailed to News Channel 33, 3800 Shady Run Road, Youngstown, Ohio 44502.
