The Relay for Life held at Westminster College April 21 collected more than $34,000 for cancer research, surpassing the $30,000 goal.

"As of Monday morning, we have raised more than $34,000, but there's more coming next week," said G. Daniel DiDesiderio, a junior music education major from New Wilmington who serves as the philanthropy chair. "There were 60 teams that participated, and we had major sponsors such as Giant Eagle, UPMC Horizon, and Zambelli Fireworks."

"There are many people that I'd like to thank, but especially Westminster's Physical Plant and Camille Hawthorne (associate dean of student affairs)," continued DiDesiderio. "Without them, we would not have had an event."

For more information, contact DiDesiderio at (724) 946-7991.

Teams of 8-12 people circled the track for 12 hours after soliciting pledges from individual sponsors. Some of the community teams included several New Wilmington High School teams, various church teams, and many Westminster College teams.
