Alpha Phi Omega, a Westminster College coed service fraternity, will hold a "Canoe-a-Thon" Sunday, May 6, from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at Brittain Lake to benefit the Mercer County AIDS Task Force.

"We chose the Task Force because it's a small organization serving a large area that doesn't get much in the way of donations," said Christian Reifsteck, junior English major from Altoona and chair of the event. "They do case management, offer a support group, and educate on prevention in high risk areas.

"We're charging a $3 donation, all of which goes to the Task Force, for canoeing at leisure or canoe races. There will be food, music with disk jockey Joe Gill, volleyball, Frisbee, water balloon toss, and if you bring your own t-shirt, we'll have the supplies to decorate it. We plan to hold this event rain or shine."

Alpha Phi Omega is a national coed service fraternity dedicated to leadership, friendship, and service with over 600 chapters across the country. Open to all students upon successful completion of a pledge period, this group requires a minimum of 12 hours of service each term.
