Women's Basketball: Titans Win in Comeback Fashion, Again

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - For the second-straight game, the Westminster College women's basketball team overcame a double-digit deficit to win. The Titans won, 73-72, in an overtime thriller at home against Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Grove City on Wednesday.

Down 62-59 with 15 seconds remaining in regulation, Westminster (14-10, 11-6 PAC) tied the game at 62 after senior Courtney Zitt (Latrobe, PA / Greater Latrobe) found classmate Gabby Holko (Pittsburgh, PA / Mt. Alvernia) for a three-pointer with five seconds on the clock. In overtime, Westminster led 73-70 after Holko made a pair of free throws with 10 seconds remaining. Grove City (14-10, 11-6 PAC) elected to score a layup with two seconds left which sealed the Titan victory.

In the first half, Grove City led by as much as 12 points two different times. The latest came with 2:59 remaining with the Wolverines in front 30-18. The Titans finished the half with a 7-2 run which was capped off with a layup from Zitt. Grove City held a 32-25 halftime lead.

After intermission, Grove City maintained the lead and led 46-37 with 11:59 remaining. The Titans responded with a 14-3 run, capped off with a three-pointer from Holko, and took their first lead (51-49) since early in the game with 6:47 on the clock.

For the game, Grove City out-shot Westminster 42.7% (32-75) to 36.4% (20-55), while the Titans dominated on the glass with a 52-34 rebound advantage.   
 
Zitt led all scorers with 21 points. Holko added 15 points, while junior Allison Borts (Youngstown, OH / Boardman) registered her third double-double of the year with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Titan junior Courtney Klein (York, PA / Red Lion) added nine rebounds, while Zitt had seven. Junior Jenna Grandy (Sharpsville, PA / Sharpsville) added nine points and six rebounds for Westminster.

Kelsey Shirey led Grove City with 17 points. Mary McDonald and Kathryn Erbelding led the Wolverines with seven rebounds each.

Westminster will host Geneva for its Senior Day on Saturday at 2 p.m.
