Thursday, September 19, 2013

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - Titan freshman Jeremy Wiening's (Trophy Club, TX / Byron Nelson) goal, his second on the year, in the 78th minute proved to be the game-winner as the Westminster College men's soccer team won on the road, 4-3, at Franciscan (Ohio) on Thursday. The Titans snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 4-5 overall, while the Barons dropped to 2-4 on the season.

Franciscan took an early 1-0 lead in the 10th minute when Joseph Duran found Mark Allen for the score.

Titan sophomore Ethan McCarthy (New Castle, PA / Neshannock) evened the score with a goal, tying him first on the team with five on the season, in the 22nd minute.

Westminster senior David Osae (Bedford, TX / Lawrence D. Bell) gave the Titans a comfortable lead of 3-1 after a goal in the 27th and 53rd minute. The Barons, however, did not let up and scored two goals within two minutes from each other (the 58th and 59th) to even the score at 3-3.

The Titans dominated in the shots category with a 24-12 advantage, while recording a game-high 14 shots on goal.

Westminster senior goalie Joe Bonish (Newport News, VA / Woodside) got the starting nod and earned the win in 90 minutes of work. Bonish, who earned one save on the night, picked up his first win on the season and improved to 1-2.

Westminster is back on the field next Tuesday when it travels to Medaille with the starting time of 7:00 p.m.
