Softball: Titans Sweep Chatham in PAC Doubleheader

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Westminster College softball team took two today in conference play against Chatham, in Pittsburgh, PA.  The Titans took game one 5-1 and followed up with a 10-1 win in game two.  The Titans improved to 14-9 (8-1 PAC) for the season, while Chatham fell to 7-19 (3-5 PAC).
 
In game one Westminster was led offensively by senior Olet Stasko (McDonald, PA / West Allegheny) and freshman Allison Hryadil (Pittsburgh, PA / Montour), who combined for five of the Titans seven hits.  Stasko went 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Hryadil went 3-4with an RBI and two runs scored.  Westminster took an early lead in the first off of an RBI double by Hryadil that scored Stasko.  A throwing miscue by Chatham allowed Hryadil to score on the play.  The two run lead was all senior Chelsea Brown (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) needed as she pitched a complete game to earn her sixth win of the year.  Brown allowed just one earned run, giving up just four hits and striking out 13 Cougar batters.  Brown also had an RBI single in the game.
 
Game two saw freshman Ashley Smith (Spartansburg, PA / Titusville) earn her fifth win of the season.  Smith went a complete game, allowing just one earned run while striking out six.  Smith added a 2-3 outing at the plate with a run scored.  Freshman Amber Forrest (Clear Spring, MD / Clear Spring) led the offense with four RBIs, going 2-3. 
 
The Titans are back in action Monday at Thiel for PAC play.  Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
