Men’s Soccer: Titans Edged Out in Double OT at Penn. State-Behrend

Wednesday, September 3, 2014

ERIE, Pa. - The Westminster men's soccer team lost, 2-1, in double overtime at nonconference foe Penn. State-Behrend on Wednesday.

Mike Worthy of the Lions (2-1) scored the first goal of the game and his second of the season at the 23:45 mark in the first half.

The Titans (0-2-1) responded in the 59th minute of the second half when junior forward Marcus Gurgiolo (Edinburg, PA / Mohawk) scored his first goal of the season after he beat a Lion defender and connected on a shot low into the right corner of the net.

Neither team could find the go-ahead score in regulation, forcing overtime. Penn. State-Behrend scored just after a minute in the second overtime when Christian Harrington capitalized off a miscue from the Titan defense and chipped in the game-winner.

Titan senior goalie Michael Girata (Monaca, PA / Central Valley) collected two saves in a complete-match effort.

Westminster is back in action this Friday when it faces Anderson in Anderson, Indiana, its first match of the Manchester/Anderson Tournament, at 5 p.m.
