Swinging for the Fences in 2013

Monday, December 10, 2012

The Westminster College baseball team begins looking forward to another winning season to follow up the records set in 2012.

The 2012 Titans (28-17) had a record setting 28 wins, won its second Presidents' Athletic Conference Title in school history, recorded Westminster's first trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament, and had seven players named to the 2012 All-PAC Team.

As the team prepares this preseason, senior players have a positive outlook for what needs to be done to excel in 2013.

Senior Nick Grow explains how the seniors will help lead the team into the season. "We have a strong senior class, and the leadership that the they have shown so far is something that will help this team be successful," Grow said. "The guys on this team know what it felt like to be champions last year and it's our expectation to be back in that position this year. Anything less would be a disappointment."

To have another successful season, it is going to be more than just the nine players on the field carrying the load; it is going take a team effort. Senior Andrew Wallen knows that everybody needs to contribute to reach their expectations.

"As upperclassmen/seniors we need to make sure that the younger guys are prepared and ready to step up when called upon this year," Wallen explained. "Unlike last year, we are thin at some positions and need everybody on the team to be ready to perform.  I believe that with the coaching staff we have this year and great fundamental baseball, we will be in a good position to make another run at that PAC championship."

The Titans will look to repeat as PAC champions. With the leadership of the coaching staff and seniors, the team will be ready to reprise their success once again in 2013.
