Westminster College
New Wilmington, PA
The Department of Psychology at Westminster College is excited to host the 39th Annual Western Pennsylvania Undergraduate Psychology Conference (WPUPC). For nearly four decades motivated undergraduate researchers have been presenting at the WPUPC. Over the years approximately 100 different institutions have participated. Since its relatively humble beginnings in 1973 with 44 presenters, WPUPC has hosted thousands of young researchers with well over 100 presenters and over 200 attendees each year. We anticipate that this year will see even greater numbers of presentations and attendees. We look forward to continuing the tradition of providing an excellent venue for the dissemination of important undergraduate research. We hope to see you in attendance at this year's conference!
Registration is required of all who attend the conference. The deadline to register online is 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2011. Registration is also possible on-site at the McKelvey Campus Center beginning at 7:30 the morning of the conference. The cost of registration this year is $15.00, which includes a continental breakfast, lunch, and program materials. Registration fees will be paid on-site the morning of the conference (cash or check made out to Westminster College). The majority of the conference will be in the McKelvey Campus Center with the exception of a few paper sessions that will be held in neighboring buildings on campus.
The Keynote Address for the conference will be provided by Dr. Walter Schneider, Professor of Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh and Senior Scientist at the Learning Research & Development Center (LRDC). Dr. Schneider investigates dynamic cortical processing in human behavioral and brain imaging studies and computer simulation models. Dr. Schneider and his research team examine cortical areas involved in learning including frontal, parietal, and cingulate cortex, subcortical structures (e.g., hippocampus) and sensory processing areas (e.g., thalamus and visual cortex). Dr. Schneider is a pioneer in the development of technologies for detailed tracking of the dynamics of cortical processing. Follow this link to view an example of these fiber tracking technologies.
