Neuroscience Club"The purpose of Neuroscience Club is to promote and foster the field of Neuroscience on Westminster’s campus. Furthermore, the club aims to provide a forum for discussion of current Neuroscience topics and offer opportunities for interaction with professionals in the field, through conferences and speakers. Benefits to members include participation in the selection of Neuroscience speakers to invite to campus, participation in group journal article discussions, opportunities to interact with Neuroscience faculty outside the typical classroom setting, and opportunities to coordinate with other club members to attend neuroscience conferences" - Rachel Hoffman, Neuroscience club founder. Fall 2010: Neuroscience Club Hosts Speaker for 2010 Westminster College Neuroscience SymposiumThis year's Neuroscience Club, Neuroscience Syposium speaker was Dr. Aryn Gittis, Ph. D. who is currently doing post-doctoral research in the lab of Anatol Kreitzer at the Gladstone Institute of Neurological Disease, University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Gittis talked about the role of interneurons in striatal output pathways and their potential role in the neuropathology of Parkinson's disease. The topic of her talk was published recently in the Journal of Neuroscience. Westminster students had an opportunity to interact with Dr. Gittis at a Neuroscience Club dinner before her talk. The event was sponsored by the departments of Psychology and Biology. |
