Westminster's innovative, American Chemical Society-approved program is based on a career-
track system. Students may elect one of five tracks, depending on their goals: Professional
Chemist, Forensic Science, Secondary Education Certification, Pre-Medical/Dental or
3-2 Chemical Engineering.
First-Year Courses:
Our unique first-year chemistry curriculum provides opportunity and
challenge for all science students, regardless of their level of preparation. These courses feature
inquiry-based learning and a close connection between lecture and laboratory experiences.
Advanced Laboratory:
Taken during the junior-year, this course features semi-independent
laboratroy proojects that mirror work done by professional chemsits in graduate school, industry
and government laboratories. Our graduates report that this course made them better prepared
than many students from other institutions.
Senior Research:
Each chemistry major is required to perform independent research with a
faculty mentor during their senior year. This experience provides extensive individualized training
and allows the student to utilize and refine knowledge and skills gained in courses. Students then
present their research at a scientific meeting.
