Professor of mathematics Dr. Carolyn Cuff was awarded the "Distinguished Faculty Mentor of Undergraduate Mathematics Students Award" at the Allegheny Mountain Section meeting of the Mathematical Association of America at Penn State Erie in Behrend. Cuff received the mentor award for her significant contributions to the development of undergraduate students in mathematics.

“Dr. Cuff thinks constantly about the welfare of our students; no matter how busy she is with other obligations, she always takes the time to do extracurricular research projects with them," explained her colleague. "In addition to her regular teaching load, she holds individual, weekly meetings with students, persuades them to attend and give presentations at math conferences, helps them to prepare the material, recommends and assists them in applying for summer internships and REU programs, and is the adviser for the Mathematical Contest in Modeling. In addition, she has offered independent studies in topics ranging from cluster theory to chemometrics, and she has advised several honors students.”
