Alumna Nawal Rajeh, president and director of programs at By Peaceful Means (BPM), will be the first guest speaker for the Spiritual Emphasis Westminster 2017 series. Rajeh will present her message entitled “Loving Action in the World: Working up the Will to Show Up” on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Wallace Memorial Chapel. The service is open to the public.

Rajeh graduated from Westminster with a degree in political science and peace studies. After graduation, she completed a year of service with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in Baltimore, MD. She received her master's degree in conflict resolution in 2010 and is currently a doctoral candidate studying the agency of youth to create positive social change at George Mason's School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution.

After co-founding BPM with her colleague Ralph Moore, Rajeh serves as president and director of programs at the small non-profit business based in Washington D.C. She is an educator and conflict resolution practitioner with experience working with youth ages 5-18 around issues of conflict, nonviolence, and advocacy. BPM runs two summer peace camps in East Baltimore that serve over 100 youth annually.

“Our peace camps teach youth, ages 6-18, tangible skills to resolve conflicts in their lives and communities in healthy, peaceful and creative ways,” Rajeh said. “To date, over 600 youth have gone through our program. BPM also trains educators and others on how to prevent, manage, and transform conflict in the classroom and workplace.”
