Faculty to Discuss "Putting the Service in Learning"

Drs. Terri Lenox, Mandy Medvin and Virginia Tomlinson will present "Putting the Service in Learning" at Faculty Forum Wednesday, Jan. 25, at 11:45 a.m. in the Sebastian Mueller Theater located in the McKelvey Campus Center.

 "Based on the work of our Civic Engagement Task Force, this presentation focuses on the integration of organized service into academic courses," Tomlinson said.  "The connection between service learning, civic engagement, and community service will be explored and examples of courses will be presented.  The presentation will conclude with an exploration of the support and possibilities for service learning on our campus available through the Drinko Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning."

 Lenox, who is an assistant professor of computer science, has been with Westminster College since 1999.  She earned her undergraduate degree from Grove City College, and her master's and Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh.  Lenox can be contacted at (724) 946-7289 or e-mail lenoxtl@westminster.edu for more information.

Faculty Forum, established in 1990, serves as a venue for the exchange of ideas and information among Westminster College faculty.  Speakers present their research, teaching ideas, lectures, performances, special programs, and uses of technology to keep faculty informed about the work of colleagues from many disciplines.
