College Hosts Local Artist Exhibition

Westminster College will host "Landscapes and Abstractions," an exhibition of sumi ink and oil paintings and mixed media collage by local artist Thomas McNickle, Aug. 25-Oct. 10 in the Foster Art Gallery in Patterson Hall.

A reception and artist talk are scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 3, beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the gallery.  All events are free and open to the public.  Gallery hours are Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

McNickle's work has earned more than 25 medals and been included in over 100 national juried exhibitions.  He is an elected member of the American, the National, the Pennsylvania and the Pittsburgh Watercolor Societies; is listed in "Who's Who in American Art"; has earned the Edinboro University Outstanding Alumni Award; and had one-man exhibitions in galleries in North and South Carolina, New York City, Pittsburgh, Slippery Rock, New Wilmington, and Youngstown, Ohio.

He earned undergraduate and master's degrees from Edinboro University and taught art at the high school and college level.  He now conducts classes and workshops across the country and maintains a studio in Volant, where he lives with his wife, Janice.
