Westminster College's Chapter of American String Teachers Association Honored

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College student chapter of the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) was recently named the "Most Improved Student Chapter" for 2014. This is only the chapter's second year of existence.

Westminster chapter adviser is Dr. Melinda Crawford Perttu, Westminster College assistant professor of music and orchestra director.

Crawford Perttu directs the symphony orchestra, teaches the string pedagogy sequence as well as private violin and viola lessons, and supervises the weekly string master class. She joined the Westminster faculty in 2009.  Crawford Perttu earned an undergraduate degree from Duquesne University and a master's and doctorate from Ohio State University.

The ASTA honor will be presented at the 2014 ASTA National Conference March 5-8, in Louisville, Ky.
