Westminster College Introduces New Graduate School and Adult Studies Program

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Westminster College will merge several separate adult and non-traditional student programs into one office under Graduate School and Adult Studies, effective Jan. 2, 2014.

The announcement was made by Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the College Dr. Jane Wood, who emphasized that combining offices will provide a more comprehensive "one-stop" shop for the College's graduate and adult students.

The programs that will be merging include Continuing Education, offering non-credit  courses for professional or personal enrichment; High School Dual Enrollment; Lifelong Learning, offering bachelor's degree programs and teaching certification programs; Graduate School and Graduate Admissions, offering the master's degree in education with the option to be certified for particular subjects; Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification; and Summer School.

The new office will fall under the administrative direction of Dr. Robert Zorn, current director of Westminster College's Graduate School.

"Many of the functions of these offices being consolidated actually overlap and/or are very similar, so it just makes sense to combine them," Zorn said. "Consolidating these functions into one new office will make it more convenient for students, more cost effective for the College by ending the duplication of services, and will serve to provide a more direct, wider array of  options and benefits to students, all through one office."

Zorn continued, "In the past an adult student wanting to pursue post-baccalaureate work might call the graduate office or the adult studies office, not knowing where to inquire.  As of January, calls/inquiries for continuing education, post-baccalaureate, adult studies, and/or graduate school will all come to the new office of Graduate School and Adult Studies."
