Westminster College Mathematics and Computer Science Department Hosts Orientation Program

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Westminster College's Department of Mathematics and Computer Science hosted the annual First-Year Orientation program for incoming mathematics and computer science majors in September.

First-year students met over lunch with department faculty and upper-class mathematics and computer science majors. The upper-class students included:

Gregory Clark is a son of Jeffrey and Shari Clark of Cranberry Township and a graduate of Seneca Valley High School.

Sarah Fugate is a daughter of Douglas and Beth Fugate and a graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School.

Connor MacKenzie is a son of Dwayne and Amy MacKenzie and a graduate of Ephrata Senior High School.

Brandon Mosley is a son of Carla Stamper of Youngstown and a graduate of East High School.

Emily Walther is a daughter of Jeff and Brenda Walther of Washington and a graduate of Trinity High School.

The program, which also included a problem-solving contest with prizes, was developed several years ago as a way to give new students and quick and informal introduction to each other and to other members of the department.

This year's program was organized by Dr. David Offner, assistant professor of mathematics; and James Anthony, visiting lecturer of mathematics. Additional faculty members who participated included: Dr. John Bonomo, associate professor of computer science; Dr. Natacha Fontes-Merz, associate professor of mathematics; Dr. Terri Lenox, professor of computer science and department chair; and Dr. David Shaffer, associate professor of computer science.
