Westminster College Foster Art Gallery to Host Reception Oct. 1

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Westminster College's Department of Communication Studies, Theatre and Art will host an art gallery opening and reception for Wisconsin-based artist Sarah (Pearl) Detweiler from 4:30-6 p.m. Tuesday, October 1 at the Foster Art Gallery in Patterson Hall. A reception will include a gallery talk by the artist at 5:15 p.m.  The event is free and open to the public.

Detweiler's exhibition will run from Sept. 30-Oct. 25 and will feature photos and drawings.

Detweiler works in varied mediums from photography, video, and performance art to drawing.  She holds a BFA from the University of Nebraska and received an MFA from the University of Florida.  Detweiler's work has been exhibited at Syracuse University, the Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MASS Art), and the Cricket Engine Gallery and Studio in Oakland, Calif. Her work has been published in Photography for the 21st Century and Crammed Organisms. She is currently an associate professor of photography at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

The Foster Art Gallery is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, and hosts six exhibits annually, one of which is the student/senior exhibit in March. Regional, national, and international artists are also brought to campus for exhibits and lectures.
