Westminster College Mathematics Students Inducted into Kappa Mu Epsilon Honor Society

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Five Westminster College mathematics majors were inducted into the Kappa Mu Epsilon (KME) mathematics honor society May 1.

The students inducted were:

  • Stephanie Burkus, a sophomore, is a daughter of Michael and Teresa Burkus and a graduate of Connellsville Area High School.
  • Brittany Erbe, a sophomore, is a daughter of Michael Erbe of Coaldale and a graduate of Panther Valley High School.
  • Michael Girata, a sophomore, is a son of John and Bernadette Girata of Monaca and a graduate of Central Valley High School.
  • John Griebel, a junior mathematics and computer science major, is a son of John and Jackie Griebel of Marble and a graduate of Keystone High School.
  • Morgan Swartz, a senior, is a daughter of Sheri Swartz and Kevin Swartz, Hubbard, Ohio, and a graduate of West Middlesex Area High School. 

The event was held at the home of Dr. Jeffrey Boerner, KME faculty adviser and assistant professor of mathematics, and was attended by KME members, inductees, and faculty from the Westminster Department of Mathematics and Computer Science.

KME was founded in 1931 to promote the interest of mathematics among undergraduate students.  Its chapters are located in colleges and universities of recognized standing which offer a strong mathematics major.  The chapters' members are selected from students of mathematics and other closely related fields who have maintained standards of scholarship, have professional merit, and have attained academic distinction. Both men and women are eligible for membership.
