Westminster College Students and Adviser Attended Iroquois Club Seminar

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Four Westminster College students attended the 33rd Iroquois Club economic seminar April 17 in Conneaut Lake. They were accompanied by their faculty adviser Dr. Daniel Fischmar, professor of economics and business.
The seminar, "Political Division Continues: Invest? Where and How?," offered students the opportunity to discuss the views of the speakers. Mark Sniderman, executive vice president of the Cleveland Federal Reserve Bank, shared how the Federal Reserve would reverse course once the economy fully recovers from the 2009 recession. Wayne Nordberg, chairman of Hollow Brook Associates in New York City, presented an optimistic assessment of investment opportunities in the U.S.
"The students seized the opportunity to question the speakers on subjects such as whether the Fed is creating a stock market bubble," Fischmar said. "They were most appreciative of the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge to current events."
Westminster students who attended were:
Amber Ferrrari, a senior economics major, is a daughter of Katina Soltis and Charles Ferrari, New Castle, and a graduate of Wilmington Area High School.
Travis Kelly, a junior business administration major, is a son of Timothy and Sharon Kelly of New Wilmington and a graduate of Wilmington Area High School.
Caitlin Oertly, a senior business administration major, is a daughter of Laura Oertly and a graduate of Kane Area High School.
Eric Schumaker, a senior financial economics major, is a son of James and Joanne Shumaker of Ellwood City and a graduate of Riverside High School.
Fischmar, who has been with Westminster since 1975, earned undergraduate and master's degrees from Roosevelt University and Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
