Accounting Professor's Article Published

Posted on Monday, August 22, 2011

Jesse Ligo, Westminster College associate professor of accounting, was published in the Aug. 15 issue of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) Student News.

"I'm a CPA and I'm Here to Help" profiles three couples in situations that, on the surface, appear to be social rather than economic or financial problems.  The article illustrates how Ligo, a CPA, helped the couples identify the underlying financial causes and resolve their issues.

"I believe CPAs, with their expertise in budgeting, taxes, financial analysis, and investing, are in a unique position to help alleviate many of these situations even though the general public may not first perceive them as being financial in nature," Ligo writes.  "Accounting majors should know and understand that they need not feel they take a back seat to anyone in their ability to help individuals and the greater good of society."

Ligo, a Westminster graduate, joined the faculty in 2008.  He earned a master's degree from Bowling Green State University and is a CPA in Pennsylvania.
