College Announces Audio Visual Award Winner

Posted on Tuesday, May 11, 2010

Andrew Borts, a senior broadcast communications major, received the Westminster College 2010 Audio Visual Award for exceptional work to the campus.

Borts is a son of Russell and Denise Borts of Boardman, Ohio, and a graduate of Boardman High School.

Gary Swanson, Westminster College director of audio visual services, said, "The award was created in 1999 to provide public recognition of the exceptional work provided to the campus through AV's work-study students. An annual ballot of nominees was reviewed by a panel of current faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni. Andy's nominated work was selected as 'most outstanding.'"

Borts began as a student assistant and was promoted to the positions of production manager, technical support manager, and operations manager. According to Swanson, Borts has been consistently recognized by faculty, staff, and his peers for his organized, efficient, and very competent approach to his work, as well as his excellent rapport with people of all ages.

A faculty member referred to Borts as "ineffably courteous, indefatigably friendly, and indispensably helpful: the paragon of Service with a Smile."

"Andy regularly tended to departmental matters beyond his hour allotment, even availing himself during summer sessions and breaks to help us," Swanson added. "He has been a dynamic, indispensable manager, providing solid leadership to our staff and new recruits. Andy is humble, kind, and genuine. His contributions to Westminster are innumerable, and I'm delighted that our panel of judges selected him this year's award winner."

At Westminster, Borts has served as president of Future Media Professionals, host of Coaches Corner, secretary of his fraternity, operations manager at Titan Radio, and been named to the Dean's List.

Borts received a framed certificate and bookstore gift certificate. His name will be added to the permanent award plaque on display in the audio visual department.
