Groups to Participate in Women's Choral Festival

Posted on Tuesday, October 16, 2007

The Westminster College Women's Chorus and Women's Chamber Ensemble will participate in a Women's Choral Festival Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. at the University of Pittsburgh.

"The festival is not a competition nor an adjudication," said Mr. Kris Harper, director of the Westminster groups. "The purpose is to learn from listening to each other, to share repertoire, and to expand the goals of the individual choirs. It will be a day of enjoying the beauty of women's voices."

The Westminster Women's Chorus and Women's Chamber Ensemble will perform three selections from "The Rose Trilogy" by Eleanor Daley; "I'm Gonna Wait on the Lord" by Damon H. Dandridge; "El Noi de la Mare" ("The Son of Mary") a traditional Catalan carol arranged by Paul Carrey and featuring soloist Christina Commisso; and "Three Songs of Light" by Srul Irving Glick with Kevin Shields playing alto saxophone. Accompanist is Sheila Barnhart.

Commisso is a senior Spanish major from Pittsburgh and a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School.

Shields is a junior music education major from Eldred and a graduate of Otto-Eldred High School.

Barnhart is a senior music performance major from New Freeport and a graduate of West Greene High School.

Other participating colleges include the University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University, Seton Hill College, and Chatham College.
