About Me

Dan Parasky is a flutist whose passion lies within education. The Parasky Flute Studios opened its doors in September 1999 and has produced multiple award-winning students including winners/finalists for the The International Flute Symposium at West Virginia University, The Consummate Flutist at Carnegie Mellon University, The National Flute Association Competitions including the High School Soloist, High School Flute Choir, Collegiate Flute Choir, and the Professional Flute Choir Competition; the Bands of America Rose Bowl Honors Marching Band and the Macy’s Great American Marching Band. Additionally, students have had the privilege to perform in concert with the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra on international tours. Studio members also perform, place, and win regularly at local and regional auditions/music festivals.

Dan is currently on the faculty at Duquesne University (Flute Choir Director & Professor of Career Perspective in the Music Business ) and Westminster College (applied flute). As a clinician, Dan has presented at the National Flute convention, the Mid-Atlantic Flute convention and at colleges/universities on a range of topics including pedagogical concepts, the business components of running a private music studio and performance themed classes.

As a flutist, Mr. Parasky performs as a soloist, chamber musician, and guest conductor. He is a contemporary music enthusiast with commissions and multiple world premieres presented. Solo engagements feature recital programs with diverse repertoire from all musical time periods. As a chamber musician, he co-founded the PM Woodwind Project - a flute and clarinet duo. Parasky has performed with the National Flute Association Professional Flute Choir and with the International Low Flute Festival Professional Flute Choir. Conducting wise, he is a four-time guest conductor of Mid-Atlantic High School Flute Choir (2014, 2019, 2021, and 2022). He also conducted the National Flute Association High School Flute Choir in 2021 and co-conducted the NFA High School and College Flute Orchestra in 2022.

Dan graduated from Boston University with a Master of Music in Music Education and earned an undergraduate degree in Music Performance from Duquesne University. He will be serving as the Convention Flute Choir Coordinator with the NFA from 2021- 2025, serves on the board of directors for the Newlonsburg Music Academy and lives in Pittsburgh, PA with his wife, Jackie. Running, gaming and all things "nerd culture" occupy life outside of the flute!
